Mallow Oats Cereal Milkshake

2014-08-07 16.20.08Eating at university dining halls can result in the formation of unusual eating habits and for me that was the weekday lunch fortified with Lucky Charms cereal. Hill College House was the only dining hall on campus reliable for its Lucky Charms supply and so that was just the place I’d be around lunch time Monday-Thursday of freshman year. Growing up, I was more of an Eggo kind of kid though, so to say Lucky Charms brought the little freshman in me a sense of childhood comfort isn’t exactly accurate.

Lunch, dinner, midnight snack, study snack, post-dance snack… Lucky Charms has seeped its way into almost every crevice of my usual diet with the exception being… breakfast! Even though I wake up to a bowl of cereal everyday, for some reason those magical marshmallows are never shaken out in time for breakfast. Inspired by Lucky Charms, this recipe actually uses Mallow Oats, essentially a naturally colored (and environmentally friendly- the box is made of recycled materials using renewable wind energy) version that a rare trip to Target yielded us with (I must say Target has a competitively priced cereal aisle!). Simply add some milk and a frozen banana and you’ve got a milkshake that’s magically delicious!
